Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is one of the island's capitals, a vibrant, modern city with a maritime atmosphere. In the city center, it is worth taking a stroll through the triangle formed by Plaza de España, Plaza de la Candelaria, and Calle del Castillo, with its shops, bars, terraces, and pleasant pedestrian zone. A spectacular building on the seafront is the Auditorio de Tenerife, often referred to as the "seafront opera house" – it is worth photographing both inside and out, and concerts and performances are held there regularly. The Parque García Sanabria is an excellent place to relax and stroll, with lots of greenery, sculptures, and cafés – a good choice for warm afternoons.

Program options:

• Beach/swimming: although Santa Cruz's city beach is rather small, it is only a 10-15 minute drive or bus ride to Playa de las Teresitas, which is perfect for a half-day or full-day beach outing.
• Museums: the Museo de la Naturaleza y Arqueología (MUNA) is excellent if you are interested in the Guanches (indigenous people), volcanoes, and natural exhibitions.
• Market: At the Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África covered market, you can sample fresh fruit, cheese, ham, and local delicacies, making it ideal for breakfast or brunch.
• Harbor walk / boating: shorter boat trips often depart from the harbor, and ferries to other islands also depart from here.
• Carnival (if you're visiting around February–March): the Santa Cruz carnival is one of the largest in the world, with parades, costumes, live music, and street parties lasting from midnight until dawn.
